I got on to the main structure of the Infinem Palace, the palace itself. Was not being ambitious to dig in ever detail, I want to settle the big picture first, so I have done a simple zoning of the palace's Ground Floor. As simple as it looks, it took me quite a bit of thinking and collectively conclusive several day's thoughts to come to this stage.
Ground Floor would be very public, mostly used for offices and entertainment.

Working through the morning just to have today off. Yet, waking up in late morning, still have a bit of adjusting work to do. *very! annoyed* Anyway, managed to make the way to get the facial done.
Was researching ship sailing shapes, trying to get ideas to develop Wayinne's emblem.

Busy day, work just have to pour in right before my leave. :/ Really annoyed with the client and my boss. Technically, I finish this doodle by 1.30am of 30/8/16, but urgh, it is my therapy for 29/8/16.

Stapling some of the stack of papers together, already started sketching some ideas. I really wanted to finish the emblem collection for Wheistadeur fast.

Digging into my old stash of school exercise book, well they are suppose to be my exercise book, but also filled with my teenage attempts of story writing. I had a problem with completing stories, so most of them is wasted. I spent an hour to tore out the blank pages, trimming them nicely, thinking to turn them into some rough sketch paper to resolve my other problem, too timid to use new sketchbook.
I have lined and grid exercise books, and some really yellowed pages too. lol. Even the staples rusted and leave marks on the paper.

I marched into the Throne room, the central piece of the Royal Palace. I start from small, just the Throne room dais.
I regard Luxror culture to be rather old and patriarch kind of government, yet in the process of being reaching moderation. Seeing that it is surrounded by rather moderate thinking Eterledge and NICE.
There are 2 approach to detail the dais.
1. Place intricate details and expensive material everywhere.
2. Subtle background with focus pieces of artifacts. The sketch reflect this style more and it is the easiest to doodle.

I finally did the template for the new sketchbook!
Now, I have 3 mannequins. Full body, for character designs and outfit overall. Torso + Knee up shot for short dress or just top shirt type of clothing. Then the very basic headshot for physiognomy, make up, hairstyle and jewellery.
I am considering to add a Torso to feet for looooooong dress? maybe zoom in of hands and feet for gloves and shoes respectively?

I was not satisfied with the Library sketch many months ago, so I re-layout in a different way. Most notably the staircase and the upper floor.
If the position of staircase are flanking on both sides, the curve staircase fare better than spiral. But if I want to have more open space and the height of the space, spiral staircase is the way to go.
This layout also focus on public meeting place, when needed. Upper floor became a bit more secluded and private.

It had been a quite busy day and I totally forgot to bring back my grid paper to sketch the silhouette template I planned yesterday. Oh well, cracking my head in the shower, I forced out some additional ideas for my Book Binding project.
Mixing in different folds in Signatures. I can see the format be use to record one page of words information and graphic on the next. MAPS! XD

My Sketchbook I used started from this year for this project is officially finished... or fully booked with the items that should be filled when the design is confirm. So now, I am starting another new sketchbook, also a smaller size one. This one I would love to fill it up nicely since it has a better quality cover than the old one.
I wanted to transfer and archive some of the clothing designs and maybe character designs into this new Sketchbook. Therefore, the OCD me have prepared a template to trace along for different zooms.

Been to the artshop today, got around to test the open stock Derwent Metallic pencil. I just want to see whether is it a quality issue or control issue. Quality, meaning it is intended to be that way; Control, meaning the few defect pieces.
It happens that indeed the Copper and the warmer colors are much softer and smoother. This give me a lesson of should never buy blister or box set if there is open stock available. That being said, I had the new mission to quickly finish up the lousy art supplies. So I determine to use them heavily for rough sketches from now on.
Warming up for the detailing of the swords design for my 3 Aceden brothers.

The siting of the Infinem Palace stemed from it being the best place to settle in a VERY mountainous region. What define as best? As a matter of fact, I have a few background requirement for the Infinem Palace.
Based on the fact that it is built in warring time, I established a few features.
1. space with good defense or good offense point.
2. Enough space to house the first initial group of settlement.
3. Good resources for further development.
Just by the first point alone, the above sketch is developed to capture the city's surrounding. The next 2 is much easier to allocate compare to the first one.

Whole day was outstation. On the way, I kept on thinking about the Infinem City planning. To realize that Luxror is a mountainous country, I find out that it must be even more interesting to study how the buildings sit on mountainous terrain. That would be following nature and nature always have nice organic shapes compare to manmade planning.
Admittedly, this sketch is merely trying to see how the areas layout if follow the plan. But it is sufficient enough to illustrate the city image I would like to convey.

Been thinking about the palace too much, need a break. So I side track to the Infinem city that surrounds the palace. It basically has these few zones. Royal, Noble, Government, Entertainment, Trade, Institution and Residential.
Right now, I am arranging it in the sense of how the places should sit with each other culturally. Later I would need to develop more on whether it suits the history or not. It currently looks very well planned, but the Luxror I had in mind should grow according to its different boom time.

I thought about the decoration for the Luxror gardens. If it is not plants dominated, then it should be rock and metal as its nation prime. First thing come to mind, Zen gardens. Then next come, Stonehenge. Well, now Stonehenge has always fascinates me with its simple round layout and the rustic look of the rocks.
The style is from rustic to more polished. I am thinking of putting the more rustic rock on the exterior and the more polished one near the opulent grand palace.

Viewing angles is pretty important for auditorium, theatre, cinema and just any big stage for that matter. As mentioned before, I got the brilliant lightbulb moment and place the secondary upper stage for the musical band. I also added in a secret passage for the Royal Levels.

Actually, I had been searching for the thin magnetic sheet for weeks, and what a surprise I found it today! It seems like, I had sandwiched the magnetic sheet in between some heavy books, because it was crooked before. lol.
I cut it to strip then stick it behind the pans. I also cut the white plastic sheet to be the palette and then discover that it won't fit the mister anymore. lol. The Plastic sheet and the magnetic sheet does have certain thickness added up. *smacked head*
Now I need to find a slimmer mister...

Amphitheater, what a fascinating curve element to design after the modular boxy barracks. In fact, I am so lost with the scale, it is much harder to scale for curve elements, to me.
After completing it, the first thought I have is that, with the water features and plants interweaving, the whole design looks more NICE than Luxror. :/ I can create a reason or history that NICEan was brought in to design it. Still, I would love to see a more opulent and more incredulous lavish extravagant amphitheater that could match Luxror's grandness.
When I was scanning it, I noticed that... It doesn't really suit the culture of Luxror to have outdoor amphitheatre at all. lol. They are more indoor kind. That means, I have to find a space in the palace to create an indoor auditorium. Preferably the ones that could connect both Royal Chambers of Amphitheatre and Auditorium together. Some sort of mirror image layout, one in, one out.

Even though I wanted to put down the barracks detail to later, but that is what filled up my mind the whole day. I worked out the module and calculated roughly how many people can fit in the barracks. I provided a rather generous space for the guards, in my opinion. If still not enough space, I would either work on same bed share with 2 different shift persons, this would double the whole amount, which is great short cut.
See how modular and discipline the barracks is? The width is controlled at 10m, the length could be consider, but the shape more or less there. Which means, my palace have to be at least 2 or 3 times the barrack size... My barrack is now 60 x 10, then the palace would be at least 180 x 30, which is a huge space to fill.

Barracks, is where the guards would operate, living and working in it. It is a pretty discipline job and function, making the whole design of that particular zone so much easier to approach.
When the layout became easy, now I have to consider and determine whether the scale of the building enough to house however many guards to protect the palace AND the whole palace compound. If I use the barracks as a base point to start in terms of scale, then I would have to adjust the size of the palace accordingly. The way of things works in most palace castle is that, the biggest building should be the palace.

Compiling all I have research to build this Infinem Palace for my NaNo project. My story's next arc would take place there and I would love to get a proper layout before November hits.
After deciding the spaces to include in this palace, I zone them into different categories. Depending on their functions, relationships to each spaces and the requirement of each spaces. It took me quite a while to get it done.
Contrary to work from a bigger site to small, other than I have the idea the palace to be situated higher than the city surrounding it, the environment has no details whatsoever. This time, I build up from a building and see what it needs. My starting point is the palace shape at the centre, and how long that shape took me to finalized.
After zoning them out, now I can start my OCD designing portion by portion.

Using the other side of the same pastel blue paper where I tested the drawing pastel yesterday, figuring it is a better background to see all the metallic colors. Alas, it is either I chose the wrong paper color or the Derwent Metallic pencil is just not up to standard or it is what it is intended to be. :/
If you can't tell, the creamiest one is still the Pewter. :/

Pastel, drawing pastel. I don't have much experience with pastel and it is really messy.
It always bugs me when I see people smudge with their fingers instead of using tissue. Now I understand why. Somehow, finger smudging is smoother than using tissue. Maybe I should try sponge next, since pan pastel is using some kind of sponge. However, I am not that confident in cheap make up sponge, after seeing some people testing with cheap make up sponge.

It is hard to draw with a blunt edge. But then, I don't want to keep sharpen Graphitone. Every turn It is sharpen, precious graphite is wasted more than wood casing ones. *sighs*

I had been looking for brown inking pens for some time now. I am glad to be able to snag the Faber-Castell pen set in different line weight.

I have used the white pens sketch them out. Like Gelly Rolls, they don't layer that well... and I am too impatient to wait for them to dry to put on another layer. That explains the ugly strokes marks.
214th day of 2016.
This time I tested it on the white paper. Not all that impressive also. Silver and Pewter again, very smooth. Gold is also smoother a bit, maybe I shake off the hardened outer layer yesterday. Antique Gold and Bronze feels the same. This time I sharpened the Copper, well, it did deposite color better, but it is CRUMBLY.
Then, I use water to to see how it works on white paper. I don't think I quite master it yet. Maybe I should see how other people water soluble it. :/
