Derwent Metallic Test 1

213th day of 2016.

I finally tested the Derwent Metallic, testing them on a black paper. The result is very mix, upon testing them, it is the first time I feel that I understand what hard and soft means in terms of pencil.

The Silver 80 and Pewter 81 are the most soft, it lays smooth and thick, can almost feel the buttery feel as it glides on paper. However, as it advances into Gold 82, Antique Gold 83 and Bronze 84, they feels a bit harder, nevertheless it still lays fine. The worst is Copper 85, the core itself is bad. It is very patchy, sometimes it hits a smooth spot and then it just turns hard without any color at all. Terrible.
Lastly, since it claimed to be water soluble, I use a waterbrush and wet the right side of the shading. I am not that impressed. I am not sure whether I have put too much water, but I think I am going to test it on a white paper and see how it fares on white.

NaNoWriMo - July 17

212th day of 2016.

After all the hassle, I failed to ugrade to Windows 10. I would blame it all on Microsoft though. Anyway, I still managed to get my system reformat, had been spending hours to install all the necessary drivers and some programs to complete my NaNo. Then I would go straight to do work for my salaried job.

Busy day's only comfort...

211th day of 2016.

I am at a relatively 'new' airport for my business day trip. I was very annoyed with the arrangement since I have to wake up crazy early to get to the airport. But then, when I went in the bookshop over there! I finally found Uniball Signo white pens! I immediately buy both Angelic and Broad.

Preparing for Windows 10 - OCD version

210th day of 2016.

I had been using the computer for 1 year and 3 months. This time, I had a very strict organization folders routine. But, my download folders are still a mess. Besides, my other folder that store all loose materials and researches is even in a dire need of a better categorization.

Hobby
Art
Write
Photography
Videography
Stationery

Entertainment
Book - Comic, Novel
Audio - Anime, Real Life
Video - Anime, Real Life
(I am still thinking whether there is a way to cross tag video as both anime/real life with movie/series

NaNoWriMo - July 16

209th day of 2016.

Came back from company dinner, and I have under 2 hours to do my NaNo. Judging on my tiredness, I think I have to compromise with my original way of doing. I have to reformat by tomorrow, but I don't really have to complete my target by tomorrow. I think I am shifting this project to my laptop while the desktop is upgrading.

I guess for tomorrow, I would be spending my time mostly in tidying up my desktop and then reformatting it.

NaNoWriMo - July 13 & Book Perfect Bind

206th day of 2016.

I actually had cut out a stack of papers to do the simplest perfect binding many weeks ago. But because I cut them down one by one, the perfectionist in me liked to trim off them into perfect size, so I left it down first.

I apply 2 PVA glue on the stack of white paper's spine, then attach the craft board backing with another PVA glue layer. As it dried, I don't feel that the PVA glue is secure enough, so I go and get the 'Super', a gauze material I just recently bought to attach it at the spine. It is much more sturdier now.

Craft - DIY Watercolor 2

205th day of 2016.

I attended a full day conference and during the non my interest topic, I sketch my DIY for watercolor box.

Tools and Materials
1. Name card holder - Daiso
2. Metal pans - which I just clear out the make up the day before. [recycle]
3. PVC sheet - yet to cut and glue into palette.
4. Sakura Koi water brush - the most compact waterbrush
5. Mini perfume atomizer - Daiso
6. Sponges or kitchen towels
7. Eyedropper
8. Mini mechanical pencil
9. Magnet to place the metal pans in place and yet flexible

I have yet to get a magnet sheet that is thin enough to my satisfaction. The Magnetic tape I bought is 1mm thick, I wish to find as thin as possible. Besides, the magnetic tape is very! weak. The super strong metalic magnet I have is toooooo strong and even thicker since it is a proper magnet.

I checked my old receipt few months ago, I supposedly paid for a magnetic sheet but then I can't find it. Either I lose it or misplaced it or the cashier didn't put it in! T__T Anyway, I will get it the next time and do up the palette.

Craft - DIY Watercolor 1

204th day of 2016.

I had been planning and sourcing for appropriate materials to make my most compact watercolor set. I had recently get my hands on mother's old cosmetics, in which it has those little metal trays, just the small enough size to fit in.

I dug out the eyeshadow and lipstick, then dump it in a tray of sticky removal solution. Disappointed to see residue, I sunk it in make up remover. Lipstick is such a tough one to remove, it remain the cosmetic I hate most, I hate sticky stuff. :/

198th day of 2016.

Craft - Vertical or Horizontal

197th day of 2016.

Still with the Wall of Ideas, had been tying up knots on hemp strings as adjustment node point while watching some interesting videos on YouTube. Happily tying up the horizontal strings to end up with limpy curly strings, because I still haven't figured out the weight issue. Now I understand why people tie those tent or tensile structure down.

Then, I thought about clipping it on the sides, instead from the top, and I don't like how it looks. I guess I have to find the weight, and it better be a pretty weight.

Craft - Wall of... structure

196th day of 2016.

Continuing on to put my plans into action for the feature wall, I tried tying up knots on the clips I bought. It all went fine, it could be drag, no problem and then, there are issues.

First, the ball of hemp string mold the string into curvy lines, and they are tooooo light and too soft to maintain a straight line. It needs a weight.

Second, as I pulled the whole thing along on one side, the other vertical string did not end up straight. There suggest, I do need some rigidity.

Currently, figuring out how to have the rigidity I want to maintain the shape and still have the flexibility to change the size as needed.

Onomatology - Chinese Female Name 2

195th day of 2016.

I have barely finish the flipping through dictionary before midnight comes up. Was originally thinking about doing the Wall of Ideas...

I have 'retrieve' a lot of the words, and next would be going through a second time for male names.

Onomatology - Chinese Female Name 1

194th day of 2016.

Way many years ago, I had a paper of many words written randomly, words that could be used for names. For Chinese style, it is a different way of naming compare to alphabetical style. I have since then lost it, and now want to recreate it again.

Back to dictionary, I search through the Chinese Dictionary for words, according to pronunciation. Half way there... should be complete by tomorrow and then I can calligraph it.

Holiday Haul

193rd day of 2016.

It is a hectic first day of work after a looooooong holiday. So the only artherapy I had is to tidy up my newly obtain art supplies and stationeries~

The total value is not all that steep, but it is a bit... wasteful seeing that I actually bought 4 different pencil cases. Sure I do use them, cause I have a lot to keep, still... a lot in a week, of the same item.

The most happy collectible is the IWAKO erasers~ <33 Finally got the charms set. A few clips for my Wall of Ideas, some amazing looking handmade craft paper. Some other craft material to make my travel watercolor DIY box.

Writing Freeware

184th day of 2016.

I am still procrastinating to start my July NaNo. Instead of actually started my NaNo, I strayed off to YouTube, to reading old novels and then finally inspired to search for other Writing Freeware that has story writing in mind.

I had been using Scrivener for my last 2... or was it 3? NaNo during the official November months, which they have free trial offer. That is the most eyeopening writing software I have ever tried at that time, as the only other writing software I used were Microsoft office and Open Office. I realized that I had been using the wrong keyword in searching back in the time.

To my delight, this search brings me to quite a few Scrivener similar programme, most importantly Freeware, as Scrivener is a commercial product.
